If you’re in Los Angeles or Dallas and couldn’t secure a stadium ticket, there’s now an entirely new way to immerse yourself in live sports: the Shared Reality Experience by Cosm. It blends immersive media design, high-end live production, and the sensation of standing right next to the action on the sideline.

What is the Shared Reality Experience?

The Shared Reality Experience is a dome-like media installation that displays live sports in a 180-degree projection – complemented by a virtual roof above your head. The result feels closer to being inside a stadium than any traditional broadcast ever could.

The Technology Behind the Immersion

Four 180-degree cameras mounted on dolly tracks move alongside the sideline and into the red zone – with almost no cutting during gameplay. The continuity allows you to read the facial expressions and emotions of coaches, players, and fans alike. The horizontal 180-degree perspective creates the feeling of being right there on the field.

The front-facing half-dome seamlessly blends with an additional virtual half-dome above. This virtual roof dynamically opens or closes depending on the time of day. Traditional 16:9 surfaces integrated into the dome are used for broadcast content and ad placements. A local control room handles minimal cuts based on game flow.

Which Events Can You Experience?

Cosm currently offers a wide range of events including:

  • NFL matchups like New Orleans Saints vs. Denver Broncos

  • College Football

  • NBA

  • UFC

  • Premier League

  • Live shows like Cirque du Soleil

This makes the Shared Reality Experience a growing multi-format entertainment platform.

Who Should Try It?

The Dome seats up to 414 guests, and the atmosphere is surprisingly close to a real stadium – loud, energetic, emotional. You’ll also find rooftop-style outdoor lounges and a fully equipped sports bar.

But: it’s a premium package. Around 120 USD for mid-tier seating and 19 USD for a beer remind you that this is a luxury experience.

Opportunities & Challenges

It’s a bold step forward for immersive sports entertainment. But not without friction points:

  • Camera shake = “visual earthquakes” on the dome

  • Occasional audio/video sync issues

  • Awkward replay viewing angles = guaranteed neck workout

Still – the ambition and technical execution make it a powerful proof of concept and it will for sure continue in 2025 and beyond.

Shared Reality Experience: A Model for Europe?

Would this succeed in Germany or across Europe with similar price levels? Hard to predict. But for anyone daring to bring this concept overseas: I’m happy to share technical knowledge, production insights, and the right contacts.

Final Verdict: More Than Just a Viewing Experience

Cosm redefines how fans can come together for live sports.

This is not cinema. Not a stadium. It’s a hybrid experience between physical venue energy and immersive media.

A glimpse of the future — where fans gather not just to watch, but to feel the game.
