Sometimes, the most powerful digital experiences are those that invite you to slow down rather than speed up.
Last Friday I visited ORIGINS – Life’s Epic Journey at the Reinbeckhallen in Berlin on opening day. This immersive exhibition Berlin transcends the typical flash-and-bang format: it guides you through the origins of life — from microscopic structures to evolving complexity — through projection, sound and rhythm.

The Concept: From the Universe to First Life
This immersive exhibition Berlin showcases life’s beginnings using 360° projection mapping, immersive soundscapes and a carefully structured narrative. According to the official website, the visitor is taken on a multichannel journey from the Big Bang right through to complex organisms. So, let me check this ;-)
Rather than overflowing with spectacle, ORIGINS asks you to stand still, observe and reflect. The result: an experience where you feel presence more than performance.
Why This Immersive Exhibition Berlin Stands Out
In contrast to many large-scale digital art shows focused purely on technological wow-effects, this immersive exhibition Berlin is built around balance — between science and emotion, movement and stillness, information and intuition.
The industrial ambience of the Reinbeckhallen adds tangible texture to the digital visuals.
Over 14 internationally renowned digital artists collaborated under the direction of Markos R. Kay, blending 3D-design, artificial intelligence, macro-photography and generative art.
A VR journey titled “First Life” takes visitors back 360 million years, narrated by David Attenborough.
Balancing Science and Emotion
The interesting idea of ORIGINS lies in its balance — between science and emotion, movement and stillness, information and intuition. It’s an exhibition that allows visitors to find presence rather than performance. Those expecting a teamLab-style spectacle may be surprised, but those seeking a quite but still impressive exhibition will find something meaningful here.
Final Thoughts
ORIGINS – Life’s Journey is beautifully executed and worth a visit for anyone interested in the intersection of art, science, and technology. It’s a fresh reminder that immersive design can be subtle yet profound.
Exhibition venue: Reinbeckhallen, Berlin – produced by Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig.
